Constance and Catrina Melody started knitting and at a young age they were taught by the mother who had learned from her mother and so on. Their mother believed in the importance of young girls learning useful skills like mending or making clothes if necessary. They have since made hundreds of pairs of socks between them and countless sweaters every Christmas. They started the store with the support and help of their children, some of whom have taught their own kids fiber arts and teach workshops in the store. When they aren't working on a project or yarn shopping they are spending time with their families and their many grandchildren.
Constance's granddaughter helped them discover the name, Knittin' Kittens. One day while working on a project on her porch Constance dropped a ball of yarn. It fell out of her bag and rolled off the porch, into the paws of a kitten. Constance and her granddaughter watched the kitten play with the yarn and eventually get tangled. Once Constance freed the kitten from the yarn and returned to the porch her granddaughter remarked, "Grandma, I think that might have been a knitting kitten," and the rest was history.
